Library Director Job Announcement, April 1st, 2019
The East Cleveland Public Library Board of Directors seeks a creative and engaging Library Director who will put patrons first through innovative services for the community and by equipping the staff with the tools and support to provide those services. The Library is well-supported by a population of 19,000 residents in a 38,000 sq. ft. building with a dedicated staff of 33 through a budget of $1.5 million. Funding is primarily provided by the Ohio PLF and local city property taxes. Opportunities include representing the Library externally to community stakeholders and professionally on the national level.
East Cleveland is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States, and is the first suburb of Cleveland. The population was 17,843 at the 2010 census. East Cleveland is bounded by the city of Cleveland to its north, west, and a small section of its southwestern edge, and by Cleveland Heights to the east. The racial makeup of the city is 93.39% African American, 4.56% White, 0.22% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.76% of the population.
Responsibilities include, operations, fiscal management, strategic planning, program management, grants management, developing long and short-term goals for Library operations; preparing and presenting the Library’s budget proposal and monitoring and approving expenditures; guiding management staff in planning for services that meet the present and future needs of the community; hiring and supervising Library staff; and interacting regularly with local government representatives.
Minimum qualifications: 5 to 7 years of experience in library management and operations or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited institution program, public library experience and experience as a director reporting to a governing board is preferred. Experience working in Non-Profit Management and leading an educational, arts or cultural organization would be an asset.
Compensation. The starting salary is $85,000 and negotiable based on additional qualifications and experience.
